Nokia pushes the 6121, 6267, 3500 out in the middle of the road

Filed under:

Get ready for a life more ordinary: Nokia just loosed three mid-range phones for all your middle management dreams. The 6267 (€240/$322) clamshell features dedicated music keys, a 2 megapixel camera with flash, 3G data, and up to 4GB of storage expansion you’ll have to locate yourself. The 6121 classic (€260/$349) on the left goes quadband GSM and WCDMA 2100 and “900” (we presume is a Nokia typo meaning 1900) with HSDPA data and packs in a couple of cameras topping out at 2 megapixels. Bringing up the tail is the budget 3500 classic (€135/$181) candybar which ships with an FM radio, 2 megapixel camera, and about 3 hours of talk time or 12 days of standby. All are expected to ship by Q3 in quiet fulfillment of your prosaic ambitions. Feign interest in the pics over at Engadget Mobile.

Dell oomphs the color with 24-inch 2407WFP-HC LCD

Filed under:

Dell just upped the specs of their 24-inch 2407WFP LCD panel to now cover some 92% of the NTSC color space. The new 2407WFP-HC, like our 3007WFP-HC fave before it, features Dell’s TrueColor technology meant to enhance your video and graphic entertainment. Otherwise, the specs and feature appear to remain unchanged you know, if you live in Japan where this goes on sale tomorrow for ¥108,000 or around $875 when they make it to the US. Better yet, hey Dell, can we just skip this WCCFL backlit model in the US and go straight to an LED backlit version instead? We hear Samsung and LG.Philips have some decent panels available with far superior color rendering and longevity. Thanks.

Nokia’s BH-803, BH-602, and BH-604 Bluetooth cans

Nokia just busted out three Bluetooth headsets this morning: the BH-803, BH-604 (pictured), and BH-602. The most interesting of the bunch are the big, “quick to charge” BG-604 stereo cans with AVRCP remote control over your Bluetooth 2.0 equipped audio device. Expect ’em to go global in Q3 for a bit less than €140/$187. The wee 11.3-g, BH-803 and the 11-hour talk (5-hours after a 15-minute charge) BH-602 headsets are priced for less than €160/$214 and €90/$121, respectively.

Meizu’s latest MiniOne (M8) incarnation

Here you have it, what looks to be a (re-touched) photograph of a real engineering sample of the Meizu MiniOne (M8). The picture was posted by CEO, Jack Wong, with the promise of more pictures to come in a “few days.” At the moment, the 58 x 105 x 11.8-mm M8 is said to carry a spec list which includes a 667MHz ARM11 processor running a Windows CE 6.0 kernel up on a 3.3-inch, 720 x 480 pixel touchscreen display. The MiniOne M8 model will pack GSM with EDGE data while the MiniOne M8 w (“w” for worldphone we presume) is said to go WCDMA/HSDPA/GSM/EDGE. WiFi, Bluetooth, and what appears to be a 3 megapixel camera also come standard with your choice of 4, 8, and 16GB of flash capacities. While we’ve seen pricing and an “end of 2007” release date before, the specs have changed so dramatically since then that we’ll just have to continue holding tight as this pup evolves. You know, if they can actually push this wunderkind out the door.

LG countersues Hitachi for PDP patent infringement… sigh

Filed under:

Just two months after Hitachi sued LG for PDP patent infringement in the litigious-playgrounds of Texas, LG has countersued Hitachi of course. LG’s suit seeks monetary compensation and an injunction prohibiting Hitachi from violating its seven plasma display panel patents. Exactly the same claim Hitachi made earlier give-or-take a few patents. While we’re fine with the plausible defense of intellectual property, LG’s comment on the maneuver has us worried about a bleak future for consumer electronics litigation, “Japanese firms are filing more and more lawsuits as competition in the global display market has increased dramatically. We will proactively deal with the situation based on our patented and patent-applied-for technologies.” In other words, firms must sue to compensate their dwindling margins. To make matters worse, LG and Hitachi are (or were) close business partners in areas which include consulting and data storage. A partnership with a Vision statement based on “mutual trust.” Riiight.
