Master Control1

The only thing better than watching HD is learning how it actually works. So we took a trip down to WFTS in Tampa Florida to get schooled on what it took for them to upgrade their daily newscast to HD. And yes, we took lots of pics.

Panasonic debuts new Viera HDTVs and DSLR hotness at IFA

We’ve just gotten back from the Panasonic press conference at IFA, where the electronics giant unveiled a couple of interesting new products, including a new lineup of HDTVs, and the brand-spanking-new Lumix DMC-L10 DSLR camera. Here’s a brief rundown of all the hot action that you missed, including an Olympics-esque runner dashing across the stage (all for show, folks).

Sony Ericsson’s W580i Walkman lands on AT&T

Filed under:

Just weeks after Sony Ericsson’s sexy W580i Walkman phone went live on Rogers, AT&T customers can now get their hands on the mobile, too. According to AT&T’s own listing of the handset, this svelte slider will (obviously) tout a two-megapixel camera, video recording / playback, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, a built-in pedometer, Memory Stick Micro support, quad-band connectivity, and even PacMan / Ms. PacMan games (huzzah!). You can snap it up right now for $269.99 sans a contract, or $79.99 after inking your name to a two-year agreement and waiting for a pesky rebate to return.

[Thanks, Bernard]

Nikon’s Coolpix frenzy continues with L14, L15, S700, and S510

Filed under:

Hope you’re not tired of Coolpixes yet, cause Nikon’s got another bundle of compact cameras for us, including two new models in its L series and two in its S series. As the model numbers suggest, there’s not a whole lot of difference between the L14 and L15 (on the top above), with the former packing a 7.1 megapixel CMOS and a 3x zoom lens that covers a practical range from 38-114mm, while the latter ups things to 8.0 megapixels and a 3x zoom covering 35-105mm. The L15 also boasts a slightly larger 2.8-inch LCD, as opposed to a 2.4-inch one on the L14. Moving into higher-end territory, the Coolpix S700 packs an impressive 12.1 megapixels, a 3x optical zoom and a 2.7-inch LCD in a slim aluminum body, while the also-aluminum S510 boasts 8.0 megapixels, a 3x optical zoom, and a pink color option in addition to the standard black and silver. Look for the whole lot of them to be available sometime next month, with the L14 and L15 running $150 and $180, respectively, and the S700 and S510 setting you back $380 and $300 apiece.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10 DSLR hands-on

We were fortunate enough to check out Panasonic’s new DMC-L10 DSLR, and we have to say, it’s a solid jump ahead of what we saw in their first-gen L1. Besides trimming down the size significantly (it’s still a heavy sucker, though), we were into the swiveling LCD, customizable presets, and even interesting takes on old features, like graphical manual settings that help newbs do things like set the aperture, and “film-type” presets (which do everything from the usual sepia to reproducing various saturations of common analog film brands). Check out more on this one in the gallery below.
