HP delaying MediaSmart Home Server till the holidays?

Filed under:

Bad news for those anxiously awaiting the release of HP’s MediaSmart Home Servers. Turns out, HP may be holding off on the launch due to Microsoft’s “last minute bug hunting and tweaks.” Reportedly, HP will be delaying shipment of the product “by 75 to 120 days,” which means that eager to-be-customers won’t be able to wrap their palms around the Windows Home Server-based device until “late fall.” Of course, the wait should bring about a finer tuned OS — including “more reliable remote server access, automatic router and firewall setting tools, and enhancements to synchronizing features” — but we know all too well how hard patience is to come by.

Toshiba intros TDP-EW25 & TDP-EX20 DLP projectors

Filed under:

If DLP projectors are your thing, Toshiba’s got you covered with two new devices. The TDP-EW25 gets you a WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution, 2600 lumen, and a 2000:1 contrast ratio image, while the TDP-EX20 gets you all the same specs, albeit with a reduced resolution XGA (1024 x 768), and 2300 lumen picture. The TDP-EW25 claims a 1.2 meter throw distance (according to Toshiba, an industry first, which ain’t quite right), while the TDP-EX20 1.5m throw. Both projectors also supposedly support networked projection, but we don’t have confirmation on that, besides the translated mention of Vista and Ethernet. The TDP-EW25 goes on sale in Japan on October 25th for ¥449,400 (about $3,900 US), while its less powerful brother the TDP-EX20 will retail for ¥386,400 (about $3,400 US) when it goes on sale September 20th.

Philips unveils DVB-T-equipped 19- / 32-inch FlatTV LCDs

Philips certainly has been on a tear of late, and apparently, the company’s LCD releases are still flowing in from IFA. The latest duo to hit the scene are the ivory-colored 19-inch 19PFL5602D and 32-inch 32PFL7602D FlatTVs, both of which feature an integrated DVB-T tuner and dual HDMI inputs. The larger of the two includes Pixel Plus 2 HD technology and Digital Natural Motion to tackle those judders, while the smaller sibling doesn’t look to lose much outside of screen real estate. Sadly, mum’s the word on price and availability, but all signs are pointing to a European-only release.

iriver’s B20 mini-TV features DAB / DMB in a familiar format

It took a little while to get it out of Korea, but iriver is finally giving the B20 DMB TV some circulation come September. With the still-sexy looks of the original Clix, plus hot DAB / DMB / FM tuners and full-fledged PMP function, there’s a lot to love about the new DAP. The 2.4-inch screen does it up QVGA, and there’s a pop-up antenna hidden in the back. It comes in 2GB and 4GB flavors, and includes an SD card slot if that’s not enough to satisfy. We’re hearing 27 hours of battery life, but no precise launch date or price info just yet.
