Panasonic’s D-snap now even more cluttered with Bluetooth

Filed under:

If you look closely at the Panasonic SV-SD950N’s jumble of controls (go ahead, look, we know it hurts) you’ll notice a few new icons: a telephone and Bluetooth. No, they haven’t turned their latest D-snap Audio player into a Bluetooth enabled phone. However, they have enabled the A2DP, AVRCP, and HFP Bluetooth profiles allowing their DAP to pair and control your Bluetooth-equipped stereo headset, phone, and handsfree rig in your car or office. Otherwise, we’re looking at the same ol’ D-snap only with far less juice with Bluetooth enabled. After all, it’s Bluetooth 2.0, not 2.1. Hitting Japan on September 21 for ¥25,000 (about $219) with 1GB SD card.

$1.4 million IBM server falls off forklift, finger pointing ensues

Filed under:

Yeah, we’ve seen our fair share of pricey accidents, but this one is just brimming with ridiculousness. Reportedly, a mysterious IBM server that was headed to the US Patent and Trademark Office managed to fall off of a forklift managed by federal contractor T.R. Systems. The firm claims that the mishap occurred after the forklift “hit the raised surface at the entry door of the warehouse,” but rather than taking the fall for the incident, it’s seeking damages in excess of $1.4 million from IBM for Big Blue’s shoddy packaging. Not surprisingly, IBM has stated that it will “defend itself vigorously” in the case, but there’s no word on whether the traditional shipping cartons will be replaced with armored iterations in the future.

Nokia’s N95 finally US bound with HSDPA

Seriously, did you ever think this day would come? Well it’s official, the N95 is heading Stateside on TKTK. That’s right, Nokia’s “multimedia computer” is finally touting HSDPA on the US-friendly 850MHz and 1900MHz bands. No more trekking to Europe or your “local” Nokia store for a data-excluded, N95 experience. Otherwise, it’s still the same GPS lovin’ WiFi monster we’ve ogled for months. Yeah, we could hardly believe it either until we went hands-on over at Engadget Mobile.

Nokia’s Ovi unleashed: stay calm, it’s only a brand

Nokia just took the wraps off their Ovi (which means “the door” in Finnish) Internet services brand. The idea is to pull the Nokia Music Store, N-Gage, Nokia Maps, and all future Nokia services into a single suite of service offerings. Over the next 12 months, Nokia announced that it would “integrate new user interface elements, service suites and web communities” into what they promise will be an “open environment.” Expect to hear more from Ovi when it launches in Q4.
