ThinkPad X201′s official maintenance manual reveals new models’ specs

That X series refresh we’ve been waiting on from Lenovo seems to have become imminent as the company’s website has published the latest version of its maintenance manual, which now includes the models X201, X201s, X201i and X201si. The X201 will come with Intel CPU options ranging all the way up to the 2.66GHz Core i7-620M — a true powerhouse with 4MB of cache that is already available on T410 and T510 models — while the slimmer X201s will plump for the lower-volted Core i7-640LM, clocked at a reputable 2.13GHz but also consuming 10W less power than its chunkier sibling. The X201i and X201si will likely prop up the pseudo-affordable part of Lenovo’s range with Core i3-330M parts. And oh yes, touchpads are now an option — not being excited about this upgrade, however, is not.

Win a ticket to the Greener Gadgets Conference!

Hey, the third annual Greener Gadgets Conference is going off in New York City on February 25th, and we’ve got a couple tickets to give away! (We only ask that you don’t enter unless you absolutely know you can attend the conference on February 25th, which we’ll confirm before awarding the prizes.) In addition to speakers from Autodesk, the MIT Media Lab, the U.S. Green Building Council, Dwell, and Treehugger, the show will feature great keynotes from Yves Behar of Fuseproject, the SF design studio behind the OLPC XO, and Robert Fabricant, vice president of creative for Frog Design. The whole shebang then closes out with the incredibly popular Greener Gadgets Design Competition, which brought us the amazing Tweet-a-Watt last year. Obviously we’ll be there, so make sure to say hi if you see us, okay?

We’ll be notifying winners on Friday, but if you just want to get some tickets, you can hit the read link and use the registration code “BLOG10″ for a $50 discount.

The rules:

  • Leave a comment below. Any comment will do.
  • You may only enter this specific giveaway once. If you enter this giveaway more than once you’ll be automatically disqualified, etc. (Yes, we have robots that thoroughly check to ensure fairness.)
  • If you enter more than once, only activate one comment. This is pretty self explanatory. Just be careful and you’ll be fine.
  • Contest is open to all residents of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and Canada (excluding Quebec), 18 or older! Sorry, we don’t make this rule (we hate excluding anyone), so be mad at our lawyers and contest laws if you have to be mad.
  • Winner will be chosen randomly. Two winners will receive one (1) ticket to the Greener Gadgets Conference. Approximate retail value is $275.
  • If you are chosen, you will be notified by email. Winners must respond within three days of the end of the contest. If you do not respond within that period, another winner will be chosen.
  • Entries can be submitted until Thursday, February 18, at 11:59PM ET. Good luck!
  • Full rules can be found here.

One Week On, One Week Off

If you’d like to boost your productivity far beyond the results you get with the 9-to-5 grind, an interesting alternative work schedule to consider is the One Week On, One Week Off approach. Instead of working week after week, you alternate between one intensive work week followed by one vacation/personal week.
This method isn’t very well [...]

Lenovo’s IdeaPad S10-3t gets unboxed on video, multitouch screen and all

Lenovo’s aiming at a narrow niche with its IdeaPad S10-3t, but for those interested in things like “multitouch tablets of the netbook size,” the video after the break would probably tickle your senses. Shortly after going on sale here in the States, the good folks over at Netbook News were able to procure one and unbox the whole thing on film. It’s not quite seven minutes in heaven, but it’s frighteningly close. Have a look beneath the break, won’t you?

MSI C-Series with Core i3 and Blu-ray options available for as low as $700

MSI’s refreshed C-Series laptops appear to be quite boxy, but that may just be the sacrifice you make to own a seriously affordable Core i3 and i5 machine. The 15.6-inch CR620 models — which include the CR620-030, CR620-033 and CR620-031 — range from $650 to $750, and pack new Core i3 or Core i5 processors, Windows 7 Home Premium and six-cell batteries. Those wanting to spend even less have the $529 16-inch CR600, but despite its NVIDIA GeForce 8200M graphics it only has a Pentium Dual Core CPU. We had to do some digging of our own to see just how good these deals could be, and discovered that the CR620-33 with a 2.13GHz Core i3 330M processor, 4GB of RAM and a Blu-ray drive is only $699 at NewEgg. Yeah, we just said $699. If you’re not looking at the gallery or the press release below, we’ll assume you went shopping.
