It’s been a white hot minute since we’ve seen a snazzy new timepiece from the labs at Timex, but it seems that the outfit will finally be dishing out a new GPS-laden watch a year after introducing the Expedition WS4. Set to debut next month, the Ironman Global Trainer with GPS is easily one of the slimmest, most not-ugly GPS watches we’ve ever seen. At a glance, you’d never know that such features as real-time speed, pace and distance data were included courtesy of the SiRFstarIII module tucked within, and you’ll also get 50 meters of water resistance, a customizable display to showcase four metrics at once and the ability to push performance reports out to your PC. The device will be compatible with Timex heart rate and bike sensors, not to mention any third-party power meters utilizing ANT+ wireless technology. Unfortunately, next month’s reveal will only let you know that it’ll ship this May to REI stores here in the States, while the rest of the world will have to wait until September to strap one on.

Looks like Google’s investigation into the crappy 3G claims on the Nexus One are winding down, and it’s a one-two combo of good news and bad news. First, the bad: preliminary findings suggest that poor 3G coverage factors into it, at least in part — a believable story considering that T-Mobile has the smallest 3G footprint of the four US nationals. Now, the good: there’s a software component to the problem, too, and the company says that it’s already testing a fix. So far, testing is looking good — so good, in fact, that an over-the-air update could be available “in the next week or so.” It sucks that this partly boils down to crappy coverage, but we’ll have to see where things stand after the patch gets rolled out — and hopefully this’ll serve as a high-profile reminder to T-Mobile that it needs to step on the gas (and to Google that it might want to expand its horizons).
[Thanks, Wesley]

Apple reports a 50% increase in profits after seeing its most profitable quarter ever over the Christmas period.
With a couple of leaks to get our mouths watering, Pentax has at last confirmed its new trio of Optio cameras: the I-10 (pictured), H90, and E90. The SLR-inspired I-10 sports a 5x zoom, 12.1 megapixel sensor, 2.7-inch LCD and 720p / 30fps video capture. There’s also optical image stabilization, smile capture, and face detection to round out the feature set — not bad for a $300 camera. Meanwhile, the similarly classy, 80s-inspired H90 checks most of the same boxes (including HD video, 12.1 megapixel stills and 5x zoom) with a $180 pricetag — we can only guess its sacrifices involve a downgraded lens, sensor or general sense of class. Finally, the E90 throws off all classic pretension and does up 10 megapixels, 3x zoom and a 2.7-inch LCD for a mere $100. No optical stabilization here, but the 6400 ISO and Digital Shake Reduction mode should help out a little bit. All three cameras ship next month. PR is after the break.

digg_url = ‘http://digg.com/apple/Apple_posts_3_38b_Q1_profit_iPhone_sales_double_Macs_up_3′; Apple just turned in its Q1 financials, revealing that iPhone sales have doubled in the past quarter compared to last year, Mac sales are up 33 percent, and iPod sales continue to decline with an eight percent dip from a year ago. The company brought in revenues of $15.68 billion, good for $3.38 billion in profit, or $3.67 profit per share. That’s up from last quarter’s profit of $2.26 billion on $11.88 billion in revenue, and in fact, it’s Apple’s all-time highest revenue and profits. Steve sounds pretty pleased in the PR, and hints at far more to come: “The new products we are planning to release this year are very strong, starting this week with a major new product that we’re really excited about.” We’re sure to find out more later on the analyst conference call, so stay tuned.
Update: We’re jumping on the call now, we’ll update the good parts in semi-liveblog style after the break, since we’re sure the real action will come on Wednesday. Let’s go.
