A MySpace portable audio player?

Filed under:

MySpace has long been associated with music, and the site’s recent push into commercial sales has prompted rumors that it might release a device of its own — “it’s possible,” said the site’s co-founder Chris DeWolfe when asked about it yesterday. For the time being, however, the social networking site will be wisely concentrating on what it does best: maintaining the world’s foremost photographic archive of suburban tweenagers flashing gang signs and providing a much needed creative outlet for people with names like IfUaHATERthenDon’tbeHatin, « ASHLEE » and Psycho♥Rée. And to keep you entertained as you wait for another episode of MySpaceTV’s Sorority Forever, feel free to check out the MySpacePMP Blingee after the break.

Google patches up Android jailbreak with RC30 update

Filed under:

As you may have noticed, Google doesn’t exactly seem to be hesitant about pushing out Android updates, and it looks like it’s now at it again, letting the new RC30 update slip out just days after folks finally figured out what the mysterious RC29 update actually did. This particular update is decidedly less mysterious, however, with Google saying up front that it had been notified of the jailbreaking issue with Android and has developed a “fix,” adding that it is “currently working with our partners to push the fix out and updating the open source code base to reflect these changes.” No word on any other changes included in the update, but it’s supposedly on an “accelerated release” and should be in everyone’s hands within the next the three or four days.

Meet Sparky, the DIY Mac mini telepresence robot

Meet Sparky, the DIY Mac mini telepresence robot

When robot builders try to put a human face on their creations, the results usually range between mildly creepy and downright disturbing. Sparky, the Self Portrait Artifact Roving Chassis, dodges that problem entirely by displaying the face of a real, live person on an Erector- and bungee-mounted LCD, creating a package that’s far more charming than iRobot’s ConnectR. Based on a Mac mini, the bot uses Skype for the video and chat, with a plugin enabling the disembodied head to steer the thing about the room, tossing out Max Headroom quotes all the while. A short vid below gives the basics of how to bolt one of these together, while full instructions are at the read link. We just wish they could teach us how to build ourselves a charming smile like that.
