We’re relieved, here’s why: we don’t have to report on this
on-again /
off-again relationship like we’re a celebrity tabloid rag anymore. Around the same time it gave the
thumbs up to Verizon and Alltel, the FCC also decided that timultuous lovebirds Sprint and Clearwire can finally get hitched. Their eventual offspring will be the
WiMAX network they’ve been promising with
a bunch of other partners — the plan is to offer wireless broadband to 140 million people within 30 months’ time, so today’s a big day for WiMAX and corporate romantics everywhere.

Nah, Nintendo didn’t move as many DSi handhelds in Japan as it did DS units in America last Thanksgiving, but hey, the week’s not over yet. Even in the midst of an economic slowdown, the Big N managed to sell through 170,779 DSis during the first two days of its Japanese launch. Many outlets had just enough stock to appease those that pre-ordered, and small queues were present in a variety of locales. That’s a number that Nintendo’s surely proud of, particularly since total Japanese sales of the original DS and the DS Lite stood at 23.6 million at the end of October, or about one DS for every fifth person in the nation. Who says a sleek redesign can’t rekindle interest?

Sprint beat ‘em with the Touch Pro, but that doesn’t mean a throng of AT&T customers aren’t going to be delighted to hear that the Fuze is now shipping to stores — sort of. Retail locations are receiving dummy Fuzes now, which don’t do much good if you’re trying to store contacts, make appointments, or place calls, but at least give us a solid indication that retail availability ain’t too far off. Sorry, Tilt — you had a good run, but our lust definitely lies elsewhere at this point.

We’re normally fans of “quirky,” but there’s nothing more frustrating than a quirky clicking experience, as has been reported by many of the ungrateful bastages who’ve snapped up the new MacBook and MacBook Pros since launch. The primary reported problem was with certain physical clicks not registering on that schmancy new glass trackpad, no small annoyance. Earlier this week an email from a disgruntled user to Mr. Customer Support himself, Steve Jobs, was responded to by a call from Apple’s customer relations saying that they were “researching” the issue, and a couple days later a similar request from another user was met with a terse email from Steve: “Software fix coming soon.” Of course, these conversations could all be the delusional fantasies of click-addled attention hounds, but we’re going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that Apple does in fact have a fix in the works for this problem. So, while they toss that presumed update together, how has the new trackpad been treating you?
