Suspected ASUS P565 turns up, gets detailed

Filed under:

Nothing is quite official about this ASUS phone just yet, but the current speculation is that it’s actually the ASUS P565 and, judging from some newly-detailed specs, it looks like it shouldn’t have much trouble attracting its share of interest. Leading the way is a speedy 800MHz Marvell Tavor processor (apparently a first for any phone), and a still relatively uncommon 2.8-inch VGA screen, which should go nicely with the VGA camera for video conferencing (you’ll get 3-megapixels for still mages). Otherwise, you can expect European HSDPA connectivity, built-in GPS, a 1300mAh battery that promises 3.5 hours of 3G talk time, and Windows Mobile 6.1 for an OS (with ASUS’ Glide software on top of it), of course. No word on a price just yet, but word is this one is on track for a release as soon as October.

Mysterious Korean pocket projector spotted, mistaken for cheap webcam

It seems like it wouldn’t be a Monday without another pocket projector sighting, no matter how fleeting. This specimen was recently spotted in Korea, and while we have no idea who the manufacturer is or what it’s called, we do have some specs. This device features 640 x 480 resolution (scalable up to 1280 x 800), 4:3 aspect ratio, manual focus, accepts both NTSC and PAL sources, and projects a maximum of 70 inches. The projector sits on an adjustable tripod and gets up to 40 minutes on a single charge… now all it needs is a name, price, distributor, and release date!

Samsung shoves 10x optical zoom into HZ1 point-and-shoot

Filed under:

Had enough from Cologne? Nah, we didn’t think so, so we’ll happily pass along Samsung’s latest compact from Photokina 2008. The pocket-friendly HZ1 doesn’t look too outrageous at first glance, but closer inspection reveals that it’s packing a mighty fine 10x optical zoom. You’ll also find face detection technology and dual image stabilization, and word on the street also claims a 720p movie mode. Sadly, there aren’t any details on price or availability, but we can definitely see this one moving quite briskly from store shelves whenever it lands.

LG W2271TC 22-inch monitor hits the UK

Filed under:

LG isn’t making any promises about saving the planet with this one, but those looking for a no-frills LCD monitor could certainly do a lot worse than its new 22-inch W2271TC model, which boasts some decent enough specs and an “affordable” but as yet unspecified price tag. Headlining that spec list is a promised 20,000:1 “Digital Fine” contrast ratio, which certainly stands out from the otherwise ordinary 1680 x 1050 resolution, 5ms response time, and 300 nits brightness, even it may not actually be all that noticeably different from a monitor with a less attention-grabbing number. You’ll also get some built-in speakers and an integrated webcam, which apparently even boasts some of that nifty face-tracking technology, though we’re going to go out an a limb and guess that the entire monitor doesn’t keep moving to face you.
