It wasn’t too long ago that XROAD’s V4050 caught our eye while browsing through the FCC’s database, but now it’s the V4150s time to shine. This fairly sleek PND houses a 400MHz Samsung processor, 64MB of RAM, a 4.3-inch 480 x 272 resolution display, an SD expansion slot, headphone out, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, handsfree calling support, a built-in battery and WinCE 5.0 runnin’ the show. So yeah, there’s nothing too extraordinary offered up on this one, but a quick search found it online for as low as $230, so bargain hunters may certain want to take notice.

It’s not as if we haven’t seen weapon-wielding robots before, but Robotex is aiming to create a new breed of mechanical soldier that’s quick to build and cost effective. The Silicon Valley startup has garnered quite a bit of funding from angel investors, and apparently, it has already created a two-foot tall, motorized robot that can travel ten miles per hour, spin around “on a dime,” be controlled remotely and most importantly, “blow a ten-inch hole through a steel door with deadly accuracy from 400 meters.” Reportedly, such a critter can be crafted for under $50,000, which is said to be “six times” cheaper than similar alternatives already being tested in Iraq. Of course, there’s no telling how soon (or not) these things will actually be called into duty, but we can bet there’s already a list forming to be the one behind the remote when it is.

Regrettably, we can safely say that we’ve seen a similar mishmash before, and while we’ve no idea who actually finds these things worthwhile, Cedar Electronics is apparently giving it a go with the CDV-528. This handheld camcorder / PMP conglomerate boasts a 2.4-inch 480 x 234 resolution LCD, a 5-megapixel CMOS sensor capable of snagging stills and VGA-quality video, between 32MB and 128MB of internal storage space and an SD / MMC expansion slot to boot. You’ll also find PictBridge support, USB 2.0 connectivity, an AV output, some form of red-eye reduction and a rechargeable Li-ion cell. Interestingly, we’re not told what types of files this thing will actually support, but let’s just say that’s reason enough for you to avoid this like the plague, cool?

Merely months after cranking out the CTR-350, CradlePoint has upped the ante with the even more portable PHS300. This bugger enables a selection of handsets and USB cellular modems to create a “personal WiFi hotspot,” and unlike its sibling, this one sports a built-in Li-ion to keep the connection alive (for a few hours, anyway) where there’s no AC outlet in sight. Furthermore, you’ll find WEP / WPA security features, an integrated firewall and the ability to charge up your phone via USB if necessary. Sound like just the thing you need? If so, you can drop your pre-order in now for $179.99 and patiently await the December 20th ship date.

Dual-SIM phones are still pretty rare ’round these parts, but those of you who need the two-line action in Asia might want to check out Verzio’s new Duplii and Twinn handsets. Verzio says the Duplii (pictured) is the first triband 3G hadset with dual-SIM slots, but it would be pretty respectable even without the two cards, with a 2 megapixel camera, 2.2-inch display, and media playback capabilities. The EDGE-only Twinn packs is basically the same, only in slider form minus the 3G. Both are on sale now in the Philippines, but apparently they’ll be in the rest of Asia sometime in 2008.
