Microsoft just sent out the November Zune News email blast, and it’s got a rather intriguing line in there: “… Zune Social where you can share music, videos and pictures that define you.” We know Stevie B has spoken about the idea of Zunes sharing video, but we’re suddenly concerned with the world of pain about to befall either us — in DRM form — or Microsoft — in lawsuit form.
P.S. -What the hell is up with “The Social” popping back up? Didn’t Microsoft leave it behind? Or has “the social” just become the product’s tagline-tagline? We don’t know, but we don’t like it when these guys try and mess with our heads.
Update: We heard back from the Zune gang on this one. We misinterpreted Zune Social to mean the things you can do in the “Social” menu of your Zune (silly us); instead they were referring to the other Zune Social — the social music network being launched with the new Zunes. Oh, and apparently “Welcome to the social” isn’t dead yet, despite that AdAge piece reporting its premature demise, so we’ll lay off Microsoft while they think different about tagline grammar.

Like a thousand monkeys producing Shakespeare, eventually the endless tidal wave of generic PMPs from China had to result in something interesting, like Tsinghua Tongfang’s PMC-V800. Not only does this 2.4-inch PMP sport FLV and SWF support, enabling it to play downloaded YouTube videos and Flash animations directly, it’s also got mapping software, a karaoke mode, and USB On-The-Go — all hiding behind a pretty slick “widgetized” interface. Sadly, additional video support is limited to AVI, MP4 and “HDTV,” but all in all, it looks like a fairly decent player — now if only we’d ever see it in the States.

With just weeks to go until Americans everywhere lose their minds in the holiday shopping rush, UGOBE is announcing that its long (long) awaited Pleo is finally hitting the production line. Furthermore, the company insists that those who pre-ordered the dinobot directly from UGOBE will receive a 30-day shipment notification “before Thanksgiving,” and those who placed their order with “any US retailer” will have their new toy before December 25th. In case that’s not enough to win back your heart, you can also look forward to a revamped website next month that will allow owners to download a “surprise mode” for their creature. Speaking of downloads, those wondering if this thing really will be able to “learn and develop a unique personality based on how it is raised” can anticipate “free software updates” aimed at enabling that feature (and possibly others) sometime next year. Hang tight kiddos, Pleos are being hatched as we speak.

I’ve compiled a list of my top 100 Mac apps for your perusal, since so many people have been asking for it. Thanks to Taylor Olson and Jason for helping me put all the icons and links in place! These apps are certainly Tiger compatible, and most of ‘em work inside Leopard (though the VNC utilities are now unnecessary).

We got all the specs on Lenovo’s new Thinkstation line earlier today, but pics of the new S10 and D10 case design just landed in our inbox and we’ve got to say, it looks pretty slick. Sure, that handle doesn’t seem like it’ll be all too useful, but compared to Lenovo’s last attempt at advanced design, this thing is positively restrained. Check one more pic after the break.
