Wal-Mart may have been the first to tempt HD-fence-sitters with a
$100 HD-A2 player (however limited), but it looks like it’s not the only one, with Best Buy now also listing the very same player for the impulse buy-inducing price of $99.99. Of course, it’s sold out online, so you may be better off trying your luck at your local store. Not surprisingly, the HD DVD PR folk are keen to talk up this recent spat of price reductions, including the still decent $197 price for the A2 at
Circuit City and Amazon, and Sears’s Black Friday price of $169 for the newer HD-A3 model, which also comes with two movies bundled in the box (not to mention the five free mail-in movies available with the purchase of any of the players).

They’re still miles away from T-Mobile’s ridiculously cheap $10 for unlimited BlackBerry email, but Verizon’s trying to reach out to a more personal, consumer-based audience as it preps to launch its own Pearl with a new data pricing structure of its own. Unlimited web and email will run you $29.99 when purchased with a voice plan, $34.99 without, offering support for up to ten POP3 and IMAP accounts. Again, T-Mobile’s got these cats beat hands-down if saving dinero is the priority — but then again, Verizon takes the cake for total coverage area and, of course, 3G speed. Pick your poison.

Wow, we’d darned near forgotten about this thing. Remember the Invisio Q7, Nextlink’s hot little bone conduction number from mid ’06 that was promised for delivery by the end of the year? Yeah, it never showed up — until now. It may not be for sale just yet, but at least a few folks at the FCC have had a chance to check it out (ick, we hope they changed earbuds as they passed it around), giving us hope that it’ll finally show up in stores in time for the holidays. The $200 price point still puts a sour taste in our mouths, but considering how much smaller it looks than the similarly-spec’d Jawbone, it may end up being worth every penny.

After a month or so of delays, Samsung has finally launched its P2 media player in the States; and it’s not putting the 3-inch touchscreen sporting, flash-based, Bluetooth-enabled DAP out there all by its lonesome. Today Samsung announced MPfreedom, a website with info and customization doohickeys, and of course content partnerships with the likes of CinemaNow, Rhapsody and Napster. As we heard before, Samsung is also going to be supporting the player through “Blue Wave” firmware upgrades, the first of which is due for December, and will include Bluetooth phone call and file transfer integration, along with AAC compatibility — currently only WMA and MP3 are supported — and some other frills. Samsung is emphasizing its 3-inch, 16:9 display that can run video at 30fps (WMV and MPEG-4), and of course the touchscreen “EmoTure” tap ‘n slide interface. The player is available in 2GB, 4GB ($199) and 8GB ($249) capacities, in your choice of black, white or red. There’s 35 hours of music playback or 5 hours of video on the battery, and Samsung tossed in an FM radio for good measure.

Yeah, sure it’s no Canon or Nikon, but those heavy hitters aren’t offering you a 10 megapixel point-and-shoot for under $200, and DXG‘s new DXG-110 can even boast a brand name Panasonic CCD in its drab gray housing. With an MSRP of $170, you can almost predict all of this model’s specs without reading the press release, so the 3x optical zoom, 2.5-inch LCD, ISO 800, and 32MB of internal storage should come as no surprise. Also supported is VGA video at 30fps, perhaps the highest-end feature you’ll find here. Some might suggest that spending a few more bucks for a few less megapixels would be a better move, but we’ll simply tell you that the 110 –with its bundled Mr. Photo 3 software and AA batteries — is available immediately.
