Fujitsu Lifebook T4220 convertible tablet goes on sale

Considering that Fujitsu’s Lifebook T4220 convertible tablet PC just recently hit the FCC and managed to get reviewed a few weeks back, you may not have expected this beauty to be available to the masses just yet, but sure enough, your very own customized T4220 is currently awaiting you at the firm’s webstore. Five basic configurations are listed, and while you’re already aware of most of the hardware details, we’ll just reiterate that you can pick up a T7100, T7300, or T7500 Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, up to 100GB in hard drive space, 802.11a/b/g/n, modular dual-layer DVD writer, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, gigabit Ethernet, and a 12.1-inch XGA display just to name the highlights. Selecting one of the standard configs will run you between $1,769 and $2,099, but as always, tossing in a few extra niceties here and there can ratchet those figures right on up.

Thanko’s Silent Mouse 2: now with more quiet

Filed under:

If there was ever a device that probably didn’t need a sequel, it’d be the silent mouse, but leave it to Thanko to invent a “new and improved” rendition that somehow proves even quieter and more versatile than the original. Of course, there are certainly other ways to nix the clicks in your computing routines, and this here gizmo won’t really do you any good unless your PC sounds more like a gentle breeze and less like an impending tornado. Still, the Silent Mouse 2 touts five total buttons, a scroll wheel, an unfortunate tail, and walls of soundproofing material lining the innards. According to some fairly unscientific testing, this unit pounds out just 36.5 decibels compared to the “industry average” of 58 decibels, so if you just can’t stand to hear yourself click on any longer, Thanko’s latest can be your cure for ¥2,980 ($25).

podXtreme Super Mini Sound Box flanks the top of your iPod

Filed under:

Granted, the iPod speaker realm has long since claimed a number of bizarre creations as its own, but the podXtreme Super Mini Sound Box does the category very proud. The 5.15- x 2.25-inch device purportedly weighs an entire pound and looks to perch atop your iPod and crank out the tunes while just begging to be accidentally broken off all the while. Of course, you probably don’t need to look at this thing long to lose respect for it, but reading such claims as “so much power it should be illegal” and “the party doesn’t start ’til the podXtreme gets cranked” pretty much solidifies the suspicions of this being a joke. Still, if you’re down with totally destroying the style of your Pod and don’t mind that this thing sports no RMS ratings or hard specifications whatsoever, you can snag it now (when it returns to stock, that is) for $29.95.

Lite-On’s LH-2B1S 2x Blu-ray burner gets reviewed

The list of internal Blu-ray burners hitting the test bench just keeps on growing, and if you’ve been holding off on picking one up as prices begin to sink, here’s yet another to mull over. Lite-On‘s LH-2B1S Blu-ray writer doesn’t deviate too much from its major competitors, sports a 2x maximum write speed to BD-R and BR-RE single-layer discs, and toasts up to 8x on certain formats of writable DVDs. The unit was tested using Nero CD/DVD Speed v4.70, and was primarily pitted against Sony’s own BWU-100A. During traditional transfer rate testing, the Lite-On lagged behind in average transfer speeds, random seek times, and full stroke times, while actually using more CPU power all the while. Interestingly, the LH-2B1S’ write performance was better on vanilla DVD+Rs, marginally slower on DVD+R dual-layer, and a wee bit less quick than the Sony burning to BD-RE. As expected, reviewers weren’t mauling crowds at their local retail shop in order to grab on of their own as the ho hum performance really wasn’t groundbreaking, but if you’ve got to have such a unit this very moment in time, the comparatively cheap $499 pricetag still makes the LH-2B1S a viable option.

Sanrio offers up Hello Kitty body fat meter

Filed under:

For those of you still itching to get in on the Wii Sports exercise regimen, but are without any way to measure how many pounds you’ll actually melt off, Sanrio’s got you covered. Sure, you could waltz right into just about any retailer and pick up a vanilla scale, but the Hello Kitty body fat meter weighs your body in a whole new dimension of cute. Available in a trio of versions ranging from digital to analog to an actual “cooking” version, the device doesn’t actually function any differently than the non-adorable varieties, but who wouldn’t be motivated to shed a few pounds and have Hello Kitty smile back at you in celebration? The BF-071-KT scale (pictured) should be available in Japan soon for a price (¥6,000; $49) that only the passionate could appreciate.
