Surely the whole point of purchasing a commercial product to run a few homebrew games or activate a few cheat codes is that there’s no soldering required: that’s not the case with the Datel Drive Doctor for Wii. The $34.95 Drive Doctor is designed to allow Wii owners to connect their console to their PC with a USB 2.0 cable, enabling you to review the internal statistics of the Wii, eventually run homebrew games, and even inject code “into the data stream … it’s fun!” Unfortunately, the press release mentions that it’ll require a little soldering of wires in order to get the little box that clips on the back into a working state. Most people won’t find that fun, but then again most people wouldn’t find the idea of accidentally injecting code that kills their Wii fun either. We’re left thinking that this one’s strictly for the intermediate or pro hacker, so stay away if your coding and soldering isn’t up to scratch. Us mere mortals will wait for something a little more dumb-consumer friendly, thank you very much.

Granted, the FCC has tugged on our heartstrings at times in the past, but shaking someone up this severely is edging on criminal. According to a slew of FCC submissions dated this month, there was actually a pair of GSM Reports ran on none other than Palm’s 755p. No need to wipe the sleep from your eyes again, it says GSM — as in, not CDMA. Of course, upon seeing such a bizarre treasure tucked away in the depths of the FCC, we feverishly clicked away and awaited as the PDF loaded, only to find a plethora of boring paperwork showing how successful this thing was at passing CDMA2000 850 / 1900 tests (presumably for Sprint). Not satisfied with the inconclusive results, we continued on to hit up every last piece of paperwork attached to the filing, only to read those four dreaded letters over and over without seeing a single mention of GSM. So, what’s going on here Palm? Is there really a GSM-based 755p up your sleeve somewhere, or were there not one, but two cases of blatant mislabeling going on in this filing? After the jump, take a peek at the device associated with the listing.

Fujitsu is still keeping it big, with revisions to its Plasmavision line of 55-inch and 63-inch plasma sets. The P55XHA51WSb and P63XHA51WSb have added a second HDMI input since last year’s models, and boosted the contrast up to 3000:1, while keeping the remaining specs the same as before. On the bright side, prices have been lowered to £4,495 ($8,885 US) and £6,495 ($12,839 US), so if you’re not turned off by the 720p resolution or the higher-than-normal pricing, grab these up.

As if the 7.1 surround sound smartphone and king-of-all-knockoffs weren’t enough, today we’re graced with the portable PS3, er, the 3 Cool A816. This laugher sports a design ripped fairly hard from Sony’s PlayStation Portable, but dons a hysterical “PS3 Game Player” logo right across the back, which would absolutely thrill those wanting to play PS3 games without coughing up the dough for a $499 $599 console if, you know, those pesky discs would just fit. Carrying on, the GSM conglomerate also sports a 320 x 240 resolution 3.5-inch screen which is casually referred to as “high-definition capable,” built-in MP3 player and image viewer, video game emulator, 1.3-megapixel camera, TV out, an MP3-based alarm clock, handwriting support, an integrated dictionary, and dual stereo speakers to boot. As expected, there’s no word on price just yet, and even though it’s supposedly available to ship as of this month, we can’t possibly urge you more to resist the temptation on this one. Click on through for a few more snickers.

Ricavision continues to rock the SideShow action today — in addition to the devices unveiled yesterday, it looks like they’re finally ready to ship that nifty SideShow-enabled Vista Media Center Edition we saw back at CES as the RICA100. There’s been a few changes since — Bluetooth range has been increased to 300 meters, the button layout has been substantially beefed-up and revised to meet Microsoft’s MCE guidelines, and the docking / charging cradle has been totally redesigned into a smaller, sleeker unit. All those changes don’t come cheap, though — the RICA100′s MSRP is now $299, up from $199. We can’t help but notice that this design is just a render too, though — let’s hope Ricavision shows off an actual physical product sometime soon.
